Practice with the Cameras and Lip Synching :)

When practicing for our music video we chose a song that was available and then we had to bluetooth the song to a device that would be able to play the song out loud (which when editingthe video will be easy to match the music to the video).

We then found a location that was simple so that it would be quiet for us to focus on the lip synching and the emotion into the camera. To make sure that we got the lip synching in time we would count each other in before the lyrics would start.

We then filmed us singing along to the song and then uploaded this footage to the imacs. Also we now have a new program 'Final Cut Express' where we had to learn to cut the video and how to add all the effects and add music onto the video.

Critical Analysis

As you can see from out finished video there is a blank space. The reason for this is that we didn't have enough footage, so we had no one singing that part of the song. From this we have leant that when recording you should have more than you need. Also as i was in the video i feel that i could have put a bit more emotional with the facial expressions to make it look more real and that I'm actually singing it.

Positive Analysis

i feel that the video went very well as at the beginning of the task we were very wary of whether the lip synching would be a problem and would spoil the video. However i think that me and Megan had the star quality to overcome the issues presented. Also Rosela helped with the lip synching as she counted us in before the lyrics started which helped a great deal as we was very in time.

Choosing the Music !!

When choosing the music for our video we browsed through the website www.unsigned.com, we found the song 'Come On Over' by Maxine Vauzelle.

To use her song for our video we had to send an email that would give us permission to use it.

Then we recieved and eamil back from Maxine.

When we received the email that we had permission to use the song we were more than happy. Also the artist saying that she would like to see the finishing video has made the task more challenging as i feel like the video now has to be of a good quality as its her song. However me and Rosela have some good ideas and we think that we will be able to overcome this.

Also when we emailed her we requested for some lyrics of her song, we recieved these with the email we got back from her.

Copyright Law

When choosing our song we had to thing very carefully about the copyright of the song. This is why we researched many songs on the unsigned website. However even though they were unsigned we still had to get permission from the artist to be able to use their song.

Copyright is a set of exclusive rights granted to the author or creator of an original work, including the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work. Copyright does not protect ideas, only their expression or fixation. In most jurisdictions copyright arises upon fixation and does not need to be registered. Copyright owners have the exclusive statutory right to exercise control over copying and other exploitation of the works for a specific period of time, after which the work is said to enter the public domain. Uses which are covered under limitations and exceptions to copyright, such as fair use, do not require permission from the copyright owner. All other uses require permission and copyright owners can license or permanently transfer or assign their exclusive rights to others.

'Once in a Lifetime' - Talking Head ... Analysis

The music video 'Once in a Lifetime' was very successful. However the video itself was extraordinary and unusual. The video was successful for David Byrnes strange dance moves, the purpose of this is that it would be remembered. Also it travelled round by word of mouth. It was also very cultural as while David was in the foreground singing the song there were small videos of people in other countries such as the poorer countries. It was also successful as it was misleading and it was one of the first music videos to use the different backdrops and technologies.

Gorillaz - Stylo

Mise - En - Scene
The video begins with a view of a road that looks like it is being travelled upon. This shows us what type of place the video is going to be set also gives us the atmosphere of the song. Near the beginning we the car go past but not the full view of it. We can see that the car has been shot at and also has scratches up the side, we can also see that it is a police car that must have been stolen.

We see a policeman in the next shot. This stereotypes a typical policeman as it shows him eating donuts and also he is a little on the big side. When the car goes shooting past it shows the policeman trying to slide over the car but fails.

Cinematography
We already know that the video starts with the view of the road being travelled upon, the camera then swings round to face the car driving down the road. On the front of the car it says 'Stylo'. Also the shot is taken from this angle as the smoke from the front engine covers up the window of the car meaning you cannot see whos driving the car. The whole video concentrates on the car, showing different shots of it going from side to side over the car, and also from inside the car. Theres a good shot within the video where the camera is looking through the top of the back window to the passenger seat.

Background Information
Gorillaz is a musical project created in 1998 by Damon Albarn of alternative rock band Blur and British cartoonist Jamie Hewlett. The project consists of the Gorillaz music itself and then a 'Virtual Band'. The band consists of four animated members: 2D - LEAD VOCALIST AND KEYBOARD, MURDOC NICCALS - BASS GUITAR, NOODLE - GUITAR AND OCCASIONAL VOCALS AND RUSSEL HOBBS - DRUMS AND PERCUSSION. The fictional universe has explored through the bands music videos and websites. Their style is a compostition of multiple musical gernes and a large number of influences such as dub, hip hop, alternative rock, electronic and pop music.

The band's 2001 debut album Gorillaz sold over seven million copies and earned them an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Successful Virtual Band. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize 2001, but the nomination was later withdrawn at the band's request. Their second studio album, Demon Days, was released in 2005 and included the singles "Feel Good Inc.","Dare", "Dirty Harry","Kids with Guns" and "El MaƱana". Demon Days went five times platinum in the UK, double platinum in the United States and earned five Grammy Award nominations for 2006 and won one of them in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category.
